A born Salesman? - Freelance Telemarketing
Age Now: 40 Something.Sales Whiz Kid to BA (Hons)I haven't always been a Consultative Telemarketing expert, bit I've always been a salesman. At the age of 10 I was selling pieces of quartz to school chums, that I had gathered on holiday from a mountain. By the age of 16 I was selling scratch cards door-to-door and BMX bikes by mail order. Education can be expensive. I undertook Telemarketing and Telesales for a double glazing company to fund my way through A-Levels and University. I rapidly became the No1. appointment maker. From University to Real WorldOn Graduation day at University I won a commendation from the Dean, for the first person in my year to gain employment in their field of research.I began in Retail Sales. I spent 3.5 years working my way up from Assistant Manager to National Sales Manager. I started with a £30k annual turnover and left with a turnover of £0.5 million. I went on to learn high-tech telephony Telemarketing and Telesales at BT until I reached TM Manager; earning a commendation as key member of the Sales Team in generating target revenue. I then went on to learn field sales with the blue chip training of United Artists Communications. I won a number of awards from the MD including Top Salesman. I went on to learn Capital Sales and Channel Management sales covering the key area of London & South East. From there, I moved in to Advertising & Sales Promotion, winning accounts like Grattons and Mail Newspapers. A Change of DirectionWith a keen personal interest in Science & Technology, I moved into the Eco, Science & Technology sales sector.I offset earning potential, in favour of gaining further education with experts at the Universities of Bath and Luton, as well as leading industry experts across the UK. I worked on a voluntary and Freelance basis at the Co-operative Head Office in London - teaching myself IT and setting up their Wide Area Network. I was eventually offered an honorary Directorship of the Co-op and given a paid role as Director of an Eco Science & Technology project. I finally understood 'Business Development'. During this time, I began Freelancing part-time to subsidise my income, mostly providing Freelance Telemarketing. The Freelance work soon took a back-seat as I began to be offered higher paid jobs in the Eco, Science and Technology sector as an Executive Director of SME's. Sustainable SuccessOver a period of ten years or so in the Eco, Science, & Technology sales sector, I found I was spending more time in man management and less time making the sales that I enjoy.I realised that I wanted to work with individuals and organisations who had a sensible budget and realistic expectations. I wanted the freedom to work on lots of exciting projects for which I could receive genuine and rapid remuneration. The answer was full-time Freelance. Telemarketing is not everyone's cup of tea. Yet if you have a natural flair for Telemarketing and you enjoy it, results for customers are generally exciting and rapid. In terms of business development, I have always taken a hands-on approach working as a Consultant for the CDA in London or as an Executive Director SME. My methods are pragmatic, very much aimed at the fastest Return on Investment via Freelance Telemarketing. | Work HistoryFreelance Telemarketing Full-Time2004 - 2008 Eco, Science & Technology, Communications, IT Software & Hardware inc CRM/ERP/Consultancy, E-Commerce inc SEO/Domains/Hosting/Websites, Tourism, Freelance Telesales P/T 1993 - 2004 Commercial Cleaning, Defence Sector, Food & Drink, Commercial Property, Business Development Director Eco Science & Technology 2001 - 2004 Sales Director Eco Science & Technology 1998 - 2001 Projects Director Eco Science & Technology 1993 - 1997 UK Business Development Manager Advertising & Promotions 1992 - 1992 SE Direct Sales & Channel Manager Capital Goods 1991 - 1992 Sales Executive/Deputy Manager Communications 1991 - 1991 Telemarketing Manager Communications 1990 - 1991 Retail & National Sales Agent Manager HEVAC 1987 - 1990 Telemarketing Agent Home Improvements 1983 - 1987 Vocational TrainingSwansea Uni with Doctors and Professors of Physics & Biology 2000 - 2004Bath & Luton University Drs & Professors of Eco Sciences, Pharmacy & Pharmacology, Chemistry & Physics 1993 - 2000 Co-op Head Office training in computer-based book-keeping, management accounting, & business planning 1993 - 1996 Consultancy Training on Sales Planning & Forecasting 1992 - 1992 United Artists Training in Field Sales and Direct Sales Techniques 1991 - 1991 BT training in Telemarketing and TM Management 1990 - 1991 Personal Training in Retail Sales including Imports/Sales/Distribution 1987 - 1990 Higher EducationBA (Hons) Design 1984 - 1987Further EducationA-Levels in History/English/Art 1982 - 1984School EducationO- Levels in Maths, English Literature, English Language, German, French, History, Art, AST, Physics 1978 -1982won scholarship as highest achiever in maths to study Computer Programming & Technology. |
